Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, where they found Ramos critically injured. According to Emergency Medical Services (EMS), he had sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including a severe injury to his arm. Despite advanced life support measures at the scene and his immediate transport to the hospital, Jayson’s condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 p.m. on January 1.
The explosion, which shook the normally quiet Kalihi neighborhood, left residents reeling. “I was in my room playing a game when I heard the firework, and everyone outside began to scream and cry,” recounted Precious Chloe Cadiz, a neighbor. “The house shook, and I was bewildered by the commotion outside.”
The Honolulu Medical Examiner determined that Jayson died from blast injuries to his head and right hand, ruling the cause of death as accidental.

He had a natural curiosity and a passion for working with his hands, whether it was fixing cars or building things. His talent and determination earned him respect among his peers and mentors alike.
Jayson was deeply connected to his family, who are now left grappling with an unimaginable loss. He was the eldest son of Maria and Joseph Ramos, and a protective older brother to his siblings, Jasmine and Jacob. “He was our rock,” his sister Jasmine said tearfully. “He always looked out for us, made sure we were okay, and had the biggest heart.”
In his free time, Jayson enjoyed spending time at the beach, barbecuing with his family, and playing basketball with his friends. He had a deep love for his community and often volunteered at local events, always eager to lend a helping hand.
