Persun of Mount Pleasant, SC, A beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Tyler died after a short illness, on January 10, 2025, leaving a legacy of faith, love, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life, though cut short, was filled with compassion, unwavering devotion to God, and an unshakable commitment to his family. He was 35.
Born on April 9, 1989, in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, Tyler was known from a young age for his kind and generous heart. He had a contagious smile that lit up every room, and his competitive spirit shone on the baseball field, where he excelled as a player. But beyond his athletic ability, Tyler was always defined by his compassion for others. His desire to live a life grounded in love and integrity was apparent to all who knew him.
Tyler married the love of his life, Brielle Persun, on November 18, 2023, in a union marked by deep faith and boundless love. Together, they built a home filled with joy, laughter, and shared devotion to one another. The greatest gift of their marriage came with the birth of their son, Colby Thomas, on August 26, 2024. Fatherhood was Tyler’s greatest joy, and he embraced it with all his heart, devoting himself to his family with unwavering love and dedication. He was a doting father, always putting the needs of his wife and son above his own, and finding fulfillment in creating a home filled with happiness and faith.
Tyler’s love of sports from a young age later became a professional calling when he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Fitness Management at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. After graduating, he dedicated himself to mentoring young athletes, coaching for Elite Baseball and the York College of Pennsylvania Baseball team. Tyler’s influence extended beyond the field, as he became a source of encouragement and inspiration for all those he coached. His players admired not only his knowledge of the game but also his ability to uplift them with words of hope, faith, and motivation. Through his work as a coach, he made a lasting impact on countless lives.
He was also a proud 2007 graduate of Donegal High School in Mount Joy, where he left a lasting legacy both as a student-athlete and as a compassionate classmate. Throughout his life, Tyler carried his competitive spirit, his kind heart, and his deep faith into everything he did.
Tyler is survived by his adoring wife, Brielle, and their precious son, Colby Thomas. He is also survived by his parents, Scott and Debra Persun of Mount Joy, PA; his sister, Nicole Persun (Theodore) and niece, Samantha of Pittsburgh, PA; grandparents Sandra and Ray Leach of Elizabethtown, PA; as well as his in-laws, Jerry and Teri Colby of Mount Pleasant, SC, and brother-in-law, Ryan Colby of Washington, DC. He is also mourned by extended family members and countless friends who were touched by his life.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Max and Shirley Persun, and his maternal grandfather, Ronald Freed Sr., all of whom shared a special bond with Tyler and helped shape the person he became.
To celebrate Tyler’s remarkable life, services will be held in both South Carolina and Pennsylvania. In South Carolina, family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of his life on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, located at 1204 Middle St, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Rd, Mt Pleasant, SC.
A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Sheetz Funeral Home in Mount Joy, PA. Friends and family will be received from 3:30 PM until the service at 5:00 PM.
While we grieve the loss of such an extraordinary man, we take comfort in knowing that Tyler is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, at peace and free from pain. His faith, his devotion to family, and his boundless love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. Tyler K. Persun will be forever remembered as a man of deep faith, a loving husband and father, and a beacon of kindness and grace. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who loved him.
