A Final Farewell to Senior Counsel Judy Thongori at Nairobi Chapel, Ngong Road, KEN

NGONG ROAD, KEN – Today, the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Senior Counsel Judy Thongori gathered at Nairobi Chapel, Ngong Road, to pay tribute to an extraordinary woman whose life was marked by wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Judy, a pillar in her family and community, will be laid to rest today, Wednesday 22nd January, 2025, in a private interment, as her family wishes to honor her in a deeply personal way.

The somber yet uplifting memorial service brought together notable figures, including HE Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who stood with Judy’s family and friends in their moment of grief. During his heartfelt message, Dr. Musyoka spoke of the strength Judy embodied, and the hope that even in death, their foundation remains solid in Jesus Christ. “Even in death, our hope is built on the solid rock, Jesus Christ,” he said, offering comfort to the family, particularly to her beloved Pacifico, who has been deeply wounded by her passing. Yet, as he noted, this cloud of sorrow will pass, and the love and steadfastness of those around them will remain.

Judy Thongori was not just a brilliant legal mind but a woman of immense character and warmth. She hosted friends and family in her home, staying with them until late into the night, sharing stories, offering guidance, and spreading her unique brand of loving kindness. To those who knew her, Judy was much more than a lawyer; she was a beacon of support, a source of wise counsel, and a loving friend. “Judy was a pillar to Pacifico, hosting us and staying late with us, making endless nice stories and guiding us out of our mess,” shared one of her friends during the service. It is clear that Judy’s impact on those around her went far beyond her professional achievements. She was a good woman in every sense of the word—kind, generous, and loving.

As the service progressed, the community was reminded of the profound words from Romans 11:36: “All things come from God, through God, and return to God. Praise him forever! Yes, it is so!” It is with this faith that Judy’s loved ones find solace, knowing that she has returned to the God she served so faithfully. Former Chief Justice David Maraga also shared an inspiring tribute to Judy, reflecting on her immense contributions to the legal profession and the lasting legacy she leaves behind. His words resonated with everyone in attendance, highlighting not only her remarkable career but the depth of her character and commitment to justice.

Judy Thongori was a trailblazer in the legal field, earning the title of Senior Counsel, a distinction awarded to those who have made exceptional contributions to the profession. Her work as a lawyer was guided by a deep sense of justice and a commitment to upholding the rights of the vulnerable. She touched the lives of many through her tireless advocacy and dedication to the law. Yet, it was her personal relationships, her kindness, and her ability to uplift those around her that truly set her apart.

Her passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill, but her memory and the values she stood for will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we say farewell to our beloved “Darl’Sis,” we remember her not only for her professional achievements but for the love and light she brought into the world. She was a woman who guided others through difficult times, offering both wisdom and compassion in equal measure.

To her family—especially her beloved Pacifico—and to her friends, we offer our deepest condolences. May you find comfort in the outpouring of love and support from the community, and in the knowledge that Judy’s legacy of kindness, wisdom, and service will live on.

Rest in peace, Judy Thongori, Senior Counsel. From God we come, and to God we shall return. Your life was a blessing, and you will be deeply missed.
